Engineering Technician

Hours of work – Monday to Friday 6.30 am to 3 pm


Direct Table Foods is one of the UK’s leading bacon, gammon and sausage processor. Based in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, we have a rich heritage stretching back more than 50 years and a strong vision for the future.


We are currently enjoying an exciting period of growth and transformation. To support this and help us achieve even more, we are searching for an Engineering Technician to join our fantastic team on days in sausage production.


As our Engineering Technician, your role will be to provide technical assistance for the Maintenance Manager and engineering teams to provide efficient repair, modifications and improvements to the Company assets. Shared responsibility for installation, maintenance and improvement of production lines, managing contractors and ensuring that health, safety and environmental requirements are adhered to.


Day-to-day, your role will include assisting, identifying and analysing problems before crises occur and determining appropriate action and follow-up. Standing in for our Maintenance Manager in their absence and conducting training support for the engineering and operational team when required.


Skills and experience required:


  • Have an engineering-related qualification or relevant experience in an engineering role within food manufacturing

  • Strong technical knowledge and an aptitude for both mechanical and electrical engineering

  • Competent in working with PLC systems and general fault-finding on electrical circuits. Ideally, 17th Edition qualified

  • Sound fault-finding ability and a working knowledge of pneumatics and electronics

  • Take a consistent and fair approach when implementing Company policies and procedures

  • Strong people management skills

  • Good IT skills

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to use initiative

  • Salary up to £47,174.40
