Role Overview & Responsibilities

If you are looking for a change in location or possibly a fresh start then maybe this is the job for you.

Barnacott Farm is a 550 cow dairy unit situated between the stunning North Devon Coast and Exmoor National Park. It is a family run farm with the dairy unit being only 8 years old. So we have great cow accommodation, a relatively new parlour and a 350 acre ring fenced block of grassland.

The role would really suit someone with a young family who has a background in animal husbandry and tractor work. We are not looking for a herdsperson as we have two excellent members of staff who share that role. However they both live off site and as a result we are looking for someone who wants to live on site.

The job comes with a fabulous 4 bedroom barn conversion - until recently used as a holiday let and only converted 2 years ago.

So to describe the role, we would be looking for someone who can do a bit of everything - happy to milk cows if required, good with machinery so can scrape out and feed up as part of the weekly rota. In addition is happy to work alongside the cow team but also carry out field operations. The key element is being based on site and therefore someone who is happy to do a few 10pm evening checks as well as be on call for calving assistance or emergencies if required. Note this would not be a big part of the job.

So if you are in love with farming and would welcome the chance to get involved in a fast moving dairy environment, then we really want to hear from you. If you want to progress and learn more about the cows then we would be happy to build on your current experience but that isn't necessary. What is necessary is a hard working attitude, a good sense of humour and a positive approach to everything.

If this sounds like you then we really would like to hear from you.
