This is a fantastic opportunity to join us in this forward thinking role, where you will be striving to meet JDR’s key objective of ‘Best in Technology’.

As part of the Product Development team, this role is based at our Hartlepool facility. As a Research & Development Engineer your main duties will be:

  • Research and develop new technologies, as part of specific allocated Product Development Projects, to meet JDR identified product requirements, as well as meeting customer requirements, and relevant international standards.
  • Drive factory trials, prototype testing and qualification, including destructive testing to verify models and design parameters using both internal facilities and Europe’s leading High Voltage test facilities and certification authorities.
  • Generate engineering models and calculations (using Inventor/CAD, Comsol, Excel, Matlab etc); using engineering fundamentals alongside creative flair to design the best new products and optimised processes.
  • Effectively transfer new products and processes into the wider business workflows
  • Project Management of Product Development Projects
  • Compile and update technical documentation: Design Specifications and Procedures, Test Procedures, and Purchase Specifications, whilst ensuring a high level of accuracy is present in all documents.
  • Support, and potentially lead, the development of internal business cases to demonstrate the commercial viability of new technology development work, liaising with internal stakeholders to ensure a solid set of assumptions.
  • Engage with suppliers, customers and third parties, using NDAs as applicable, in bringing appropriate new technology, new materials and new suppliers into JDR, whilst maximising JDR’s protection of IPR
  • Input to the Design Manual, defining the rules and process by which projects are engineered.
  • Operate with the company business systems, including but not limited to: Vault document control, Visual ERP manufacturing and Livewire systems. (Training will be provided for these systems).
  • Provide technical support and expertise for the Development, Engineering, Production, Analysis, Quality and other business departments.
  • Write and deliver conference presentations on technology developments to further JDR marketing activities
