Role Overview & Responsibilities

Scope of Role

The Development Engineer is a Lead member of the technical team providing design solutions for existing and new product developments. This role will also provide the business with competitive advantage through the development and implementation of innovative solutions that support an overall business strategy for product and technology development.

Compliance

· Cooperating with and support the compliance management system and encouraging personnel to do the same

· Developing personnel awareness of product compliance obligations

· Actively participate in corrective actions from concerns or internal audits.

Key Responsibilities

To promote a safe working culture within the workshop and testing environment.

Manufacture prototype(s) products to meet deliverables within the Company NPD system for Stage gate reviews using available workshop machinery.

Responsible for the issue, upkeep, and revision of the main technical design documents (Drawings, BOMS, ECN’s, product codes etc.)

To assist in the generation and translation of the NPD process for new products into the Project Design Approval, which satisfies the product specification requirements, and meets the performance and reliability requirements of the business.

Research and develop new products/concepts, ensuring that the safety and performance characteristics conform to all national, European, international, and internally agreed company and departmental standards and obtain formal legislative approval within agreed time/cost/specification criteria.

Assist in the preparation of research, test, and development program(s), that meet agreed timescales and effectively validate the ‘Product Design’ at each stage in accordance with the ‘Product Managers outlined strategy’

To plan and prioritise own workload to achieve product introductions within agreed timescales, meeting all the design requirements of the agreed departmental product plans.

Maintain accurate records on all research, product testing and development in accordance with departmental and

ISO9001, 37301 & 14001 procedures, ensuring all data, information etc is correctly filed and is traceable.

Maintain high levels of “communication” at all times within the technical Department, together with other departments such as Product Management, Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, Customer Services etc, providing technical information, guidance/assistance as appropriate.

Perform other related duties as required.

Maintain and promote a compliance culture throughout the organisation in order to ensure the highest levels of integrity, honesty, and professionalism.

Promote the highest possible standards of health, safety, environmental, quality and product compliance, ensuring that compliance is an integral part of the business and our requirements and procedures.

To carry out Product Development activities upon request to enable departmental priorities to be met.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

· Engineering qualification to at least HND level, or equivalent.

· Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing engineering role.

· Understanding of the New Product Development (NPD) process and the inter-functional relationships between internal and external stakeholders.

· Good interpersonal and effective communication skills are essential, with a high level of ability to achieve results within demanding time scales.

· Solidworks 3D experience is essential.

· Knowledge of Heat Pump or Hot water storage products/industry would be advantageous.

· Metallurgists or Material engineering experience would be advantageous.

· Knowledge or qualification in the BS 7671 or equivalent would be advantageous.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Salary: £29,000.00-£31,000.00 per year
