Role Overview & Responsibilities

‘Phase 2 of the National Nuclear User Facility (NNUF) in the United Kingdom includes a compact accelerator mass spectrometer which has been commissioned at Lancaster University. This appointment is part of this investment and concerns the role of Experimental Officer to support this significant investment, and the commissioning and operation of what will be an important national facility.

You should have a PhD in Experimental Physics, Chemistry or Engineering (or equivalent) with a strong background in experimental science that has included the use of compact accelerator mass spectrometry, preferably for the analysis of trace quantities of the actinides. Experience of collaboration with the UK nuclear fission research community (both academic and industrial), and of working in a multinational team to strict deadlines, is highly desirable.

You will be joining a highly-regarded and dedicated research group of engineers and scientists, led by Professor Malcolm Joyce, working in a new and well-equipped laboratory-based research environment.

This is a fixed-term, full-time appointment for six months, to start by 1st April 2023. Part-time applicants are also encouraged.
