Role Overview & Responsibilities

An interesting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join the team led by Dr Aitor Casas-Sanchez, investigating the functional roles of protein glycosylation in SARS-CoV-2 and arboviruses. Funded by the Wellcome Trust Institutional Translational Partnership Award (iTPA), you will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team dedicated to understanding the roles of protein glycosylation in infectious diseases and developing new approaches targeting glycosylation to tackle such diseases.

Playing a pivotal role, you will particularly be performing experiments in cell and virus cultures, carrying out molecular biology work involving cloning and generation of synthetic viruses and experimental validation of dual activity of glycosylation inhibitors. As a team member, you will also contribute towards maintenance of the lab as well as to the publication of research outcomes in peer reviewed journals and media.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Master’s degree in Biological Sciences (or related discipline)
  • Experience in cell culture (any cell type)
  • Experience in basic molecular biology and biochemistry methods
  • Experience in virology methods
