An exciting opportunity has arisen within The North Ayrshire Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service (NADARS) an Assistant Community Addiction Worker.

Please note: this is a fixed term/secondment opportunity until 31 March 2025.

You will be part of the wider NADARS Health and Social Care team including prescribing staff to deliver a safe and effective treatment and care service for complex drug and alcohol dependant clients across North Ayrshire. You, under supervision of the Band 6 Community Drug Workers, will also support the roll out and continuity of care in line with the Scottish Governments Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Standards.

You will work within the health and social care multidisciplinary team to develop and manage individual caseloads making decisions with regard to assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of an individuals’ care in order to develop care plans with support, supervision and guidance from their line manager. You will manage referrals from the locality meetings and work in partnership with their colleagues, wider health and social services and Recovery Development Workers to ensure that the client’s recovery journey is person centered and inclusive and ensure that all systems are updated in a timeously. You will also be responsible for the appropriate supervision and support of junior staff. You will also be required to offer addiction related support, advice and information to clients, family and carers and partner agencies as part of the NADARS enhanced duty system.


Knowledge, training and experience required:
  • A diploma, or equivalent knowledge, in drug and alcohol use is essential.
  • Experience of working in the field of addictions is desirable.
  • Experience of working in a related community setting is desirable.
  • Experience of working in needle exchange services desirable.
  • Knowledge of addiction related theory and practise is desirable to be able to undertake comprehensive assessments of need and incorporate a range of cognitive/ behavioural strategies to enhance lifestyle change.
  • Good communication skills are essential
