POSITION TITLE: Head Custodian - Jefferson Elementary

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Administrator/Supervisor of Buildings/Grounds
JOB GOAL: To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, work, play and grow.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months (unless otherwise stated)
EVALUATION: Annually, based on job performance, enthusiasm and effort
Essential Functions
Demonstrates consistent and punctual attendance at the work site(s)Adjusts work hours as needed to meet the needs of the building(s)Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the facility each day and determines that all doors and windows are secured and lights (except those left on for safety reasons) are turned offKeeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas (if elementary) neat and clean at all timesHandles basic mechanical functions and understands building operations and schedulesAttends staff development trainings and workshops as needed to improve work skillsProblem solves solutions to building issues as related to the employee’s work responsibilitiesUses approved materials/ chemicals and equipment in accordance with applicable safety standardsMaintains a regular service schedule on all motors, mechanical equipment, ballasts, and lightsRegulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricityShovels, plows, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and other areas as needed and in accordance with weather conditionsChecks daily to ensure that all exterior doors are secure and operating properlyRaises and lowers the flags at the beginning and at the end of the work day if the flags are not properly illuminatedSweeps classrooms / common areas daily and dusts work areas as neededCleans corridors and removes debris during the day as often as is requiredClean and disinfect toilets and bathroom floors daily; cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains with approved productsWashes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a year and more frequently if necessaryKeeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservationCleans chalkboards/whiteboards at least once a week or as neededMoves furniture and equipment as required for various activities as directed by the principal or supervisor
