Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are looking to recruit a motivated and registered nurse who wishes to progress their career through training within the Pre-Assessment service. The post is based at Hexham General Hospital, with rotational opportunities.

This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

The successful candidate will start on a Band 5 and later move up to a band 6 once all training has been completed.

The key role of the successful candidate will be to undertake the Preassessment of elective patients awaiting surgery under general anaesthetic using specialised history taking and clinical skills following agreed protocols and procedures.

The post holder will also have excellent communication, organisational, decision making and PC skills with a good understanding of current Pre-Assessment issues. They will be able to manage their own case load and deputise in the absence of the clinical lead nurse

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country. Leading in innovation and quality. Do you want to work in one of the best performing NHS organisations in England? Work in an organisation that supports its staff and focuses on staff experience as much as it does the experience of its patients? You can live and breathe in an area that has the cleanest air, cost effective living, great nightlife, some of the best schools with a wealth of history available on your doorstep. Sound too good to be true? Well it isn’t, this is what you get when you work for Northumbria Healthcare, this is the Northumbria Way!
