Our client is a market leading business with over thirty years of experience within the industrial and commercial boiler industry. They are a UK success story having grown the business from humble beginnings to a global provider of steam boilers, hire boilers, boiler services, steam/boiler system accessories, spares and boiler control systems.

They are seeking a Pipefitter / Welder who can perform a variety of tasks related to the design and fabrication of pipe works and metal works, and welding of high-pressure systems.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience working with high-pressure steam systems and will have a strong bias and proven track record in industrial welding, pipefitting and mechanical assembly installation/ removals.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work from shop orders, construction drawings, sketches, and or verbal information to layout, setup and operate metal working equipment such as pipe rolls, plate rolls, welding machines, sub arcs, spot welders, torches, saws etc.
  • Layout, fit up, root weld and final weldments for standard pressure vessels and piping
  • Layout complicated designs
  • Instruct and assist as necessary
  • Perform welding operations in all positions as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Perform mechanical work in accordance with processes and instructions provided, including the disassembly of mechanical equipment, thorough cleaning, inspection, assembly and completion of related documentation.
  • Work with lead fitters, workshop leads and gas engineers to provide pipework repairs and maintenance, mechanical maintenance, corrective maintenance, installations and mechanical component/systems replacement within the workshop and at customer sites as required.
  • Ensure repairs are completed on-time as assigned
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping, workshop floor efficiency, and adhere to all health, safety & environmental requirements.

Essential Skills:

  • Possess a welding certification to current British standards; metal arc, tig and preferably mig welding.
  • Hold a recognized NVQ level as a pipefitter, assembler, mechanic, or other equivalent education. Education requirement may be substituted for relevant and extensive experience in a similar position.
  • Have a strong interest in repairing and servicing mechanical systems and sub-systems.
  • Be customer orientated with a “can-do attitude”
  • Demonstrable experience working within a team orientated environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills and good communication is essential in addition to working in a systematic and structured manner.
  • Willing to travel within the North West region as required.
  • Full UK Driver’s Licence
  • Candidates must have the legal right to work within the UK.

Desired Skills:

  • Previous pipefitter experience within steam boiler industry
  • Knowledge of gas standards – COCNPI1 (LS), ICPN1, TPCP1, TPCP1A
