Job description

RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) is the UK’s leading sight loss charity. Working with us, you can make a real difference to people’s lives.

Come and join our team at RNIB Scotland as a PR and Communications Officer. Help us to tell our story so we can deliver our vision of a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss.

Working within our PR and Communications team, you’ll support the planning and delivery of all aspects of PR and comms activity, identifying and responding quickly to short term opportunities.

You’ll contribute to securing media coverage for RNIB Scotland through writing and editing press releases, research, and interviewing case studies. You will also support the generation of content for social media and other written materials such as blog posts, features and statements.

With experience of working within a team, you’ll have the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders such as colleagues and customers. You’ll have experience of working with media on both a reactive and proactive basis, and the ability to remain calm and in control when under pressure ensuring deadlines are met. You’ll be able to understand complex information quickly and to present and explain it to others.

In return

We offer a competitive salary, a stimulating and supportive working environment and a benefits package including:

  • 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays – pro rata), which increase with service
  • Excellent pension schemes
  • RNIB Rewards - Our employee discounts platform gives you access to offers at over 800 in-store and online retailers
  • In-house training and development opportunities
  • Flexible working arrangements - Each new member of staff will be given a laptop to make working flexibly easy

We actively encourage applicants with lived experience of sight loss to apply for this role.

If you'd like to apply for this great opportunity, please apply online, uploading your CV and cover letter, telling us how you meet the skills, knowledge and experience for the role and why you think you’d be a great fit for RNIB.

If you are having trouble applying online or would like more information, please contact us on recruitment@rnib.org.uk, or call us on 0207 391 2011.

We’re the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and we’re here for everyone affected by sight loss. Working for us means working for one of the UK’s biggest charities, supporting almost two million people living with sight loss in the UK.

RNIB is leading the creation of a world where there are no barriers for people with sight loss. One of our key priorities is to ask people to see sight loss differently, reversing inaccurate perceptions and changing public behaviours so everyone expects equal participation from people with sight loss and the creation of a fully accessible society.

One of our core values is to be led by blind and partially sighted people and we involve our customers in recruitment. Please be advised that your anonymised application may be shared internally with those involved in the recruitment process.

RNIB is committed to equality of opportunity and to promoting and celebrating the diversity of its staff and volunteers. We welcome everyone’s contribution and are proud of our status as a Disability Confident Leader. We welcome applications from people with sight loss and talented people from all sections of the community who share our values.

We do reserve the right to close this role early in the event of a high number of applications.
