With our headquarters in Aberdeen, we employ over 1,600 people across numerous operational locations across the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.

We are looking to recruit a Rigger (Flying Squad) to join our team at Sparrows in Aberdeen.

The primary responsibility is to work offshore on an ‘as required’ basis adhering to a work package given prior to the trip.

Main responsibilities

  • The incumbent is required to work offshore on an ‘as required’ basis.
  • This may be to accompany fitters to help with the installation/removal of machinery adhering to a work package given prior to the trip.
  • Direct contact with the base should always be maintained, giving an up-to-date report on the current situation.
  • Whilst offshore, the incumbent may be required to carry out rigging duties at a Client’s request and therefore would be expected to liaise directly with platform personnel.
  • The incumbent may be required to mobilise for deck crew cover/duties.

Work Site Documentation

  • Ability to use the appropriate approved source to obtain the required information and specifications.
  • Ability to identify, extract and interpret the required information.

Commissioning

  • Ability required to hand over equipment that has been repaired, or on which some form of maintenance activity has taken place.
  • Ability required to confirm that equipment is ready to return to service.
  • Ability required to set up equipment and ensuring that the equipment is ready for operation before handover.
  • Ability required to highlight any new, current or changed operating features of the equipment and to inform the appropriate person of any future maintenance requirements.

Wire Ropes

  • Ability to plan and organise wire rope removal /replacement activities.
  • Ability to carry out tasks related to various types of wire rope removal/ change out.
  • Ability to correctly fit and secure wire rope socks.
  • Ability to correctly splice eyes and short splice soft line rope for wire rope replacement activities.

Rope spooling

  • Ability to position and operate the spooling winch safely to the desired standard.
  • Ability to know and understand the operating procedures and potential problems.
  • Ability to comply with the safe working practices.

HSEQ responsibilities

  • It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
  • The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

  • BOSIET/ FOET
  • MIST
  • Working at Height
  • Level 3 VQ in Moving Engineering Construction Loads or suitable equivalent
  • OPITO Stage 3/4 Rigger Competence Assessment.
  • OPITO stage 3/4 Slinger / Banksman
  • HDA / Heli refuelling (desirable)
