Role Overview & Responsibilities

The University of Northampton is looking for a temporary Immigration Compliance Officer to support the existing team.

The Immigration Compliance Officer will be responsible for the monitoring of key data sets to ensure that the University’s compliance with its Student Sponsor Licence is upheld with UK Visas and Immigration.
The post holder will need to ensure that they work within the confines of UK Visas and Immigration policy to ensure that accurate monitoring of student data is carried out and accurate reports are generated.

The post holder will be responsible for reporting students change in circumstances and the Graduate Route visa through the UKVI’s SMS system ensuring that accurate data is reported and be able to identify and implement changes to the process when requested.

Th post holder will assist with the enrolment of International Students ensuring students hold the correct immigration status to study.

The post holder will be responsible for the engagement monitoring of international students working closely with other members of the International Student Support Services team to identify students who are non-engaging.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To manage the University’s reporting responsibilities of student’s change in circumstances using the UKVI’s Sponsor Management System (SMS).
  • To manage the University’s reporting of the Graduate Route visa using the UKVI’s Sponsor Management System (SMS) ensuring that students meet the eligibility criteria.
  • To run reports from the University record system to monitor and resolve student visa and compliance data.
  • To generate and review engagement reports from the University’s attendance and engagement system and follow escalation processes for students failing to meet engagement requirements.
  • To collate and audit reports from the student records systems and UKVI’s SMS system to ensure that the University is compliant with UKVI Appendix D record keeping responsibilities
  • To assist with the enrolment of international students ensuring that students hold the correct immigration status to study and identifying students who cannot study.
  • Reporting errors in student’s immigration status and liaising with UKVI to get these corrected.
  • To implement and organise drop-ins for students to attend Right to Study checks.
  • To maintain up-to date knowledge of relevant UKVI policy and practice, through attending relevant internal and external training events.
  • To liaise with appropriate externals groups and organised as necessary including UKVI and UKCISA.
  • To work closely with colleagues in International Student Support Services team to support the University’s compliance with its Student Sponsor Licence.
  • To develop and maintain effective and strong working relationships with other colleagues across the University such as Admissions, Student Records, Placements, Assessments, Ceremonies and Exams to ensure the University’s compliance with its Student Sponsor Licence.

Skills and experience
Educated to A Level or have equivalent work experience

Comprehensive IT skills including MS Office packages

Proven ability to handle competing demands and to effectively prioritise workloads

Ability to run reports, analyse date and make suitable recommendations based on risk analysis

Experience of effectively following processes

Experience of working within the confines of complex policy with the ability to read, understand and transfer policy to day-to-day working practices

Experience of adapting working processes to meet policy change

Proven experience of identifying issues and possible solutions
Demonstrable commitment to delivering a high quality and personalised customer service to students

Salary: Up to £12.29 per hour
