Role Overview & Responsibilities

The Scott Polar Research Institute Library is looking for someone with a responsible and flexible attitude to work in this specialised research library.

This is full time role working within the library's opening hours which are Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Duties include providing a welcoming first point of contact to the library's users; registering users; cataloguing, processing and shelving new books and other library materials, answering enquiries; and other clerical duties. Moving and re-spacing the Arctic monograph collection and participating in stock checking will be a significant aspect of this role.

Education to A-level standard or equivalent is essential. This post requires excellent interpersonal and IT skills; flexibility; and the ability to work unsupervised as well as part of a team. The role will involve significant level of manual handling of books and the ability to work accurately in all aspects of the role is essential. Previous experience of working in a library is preferred.

Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University, as well as from external candidates. This post would be suitable for candidates seeking library experience prior to undertaking a library qualification.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place on week commencing 17th July.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
