Role Overview & Responsibilities

Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant to support the laboratory of Professor Steve Charnock-Jones in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the School of Clinical Medicine.

We are interested in understanding mechanisms behind maternal adaptation to pregnancy and defective placental function. You will be working on our recently awarded MRC grant focusing on epigenetic mechanisms and how they regulate cell-intrinsic type I IFN responses in trophoblast.

The successful candidate will manage animal colonies and be responsible for genotyping, embryo manipulation, tissue processing and sample storage. You will also support the general work of the laboratory and have some responsibility for maintenance and replenishment of stock.

You will be educated to degree level or have an equivalent level of practical experience. The role holder will have experience of scientific research working with small animals and ideally mouse embryo manipulation. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of principles and processes related to such work. The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, good organisation and communication skills.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2.5 years in the first instance but with the possibility of extension.
