Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, to work within Professor Milosevic’s group at the Nuffield Department of Medicine. The task is to carry out experimental work in the fields of cell biology and biochemistry, in order to study mechanisms of disease caused by defects in organelle acidification.
You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities, which will include planning your own work and objectives on a 6-month basis along with the supervisor. You will work independently or under limited supervision to identify, modify and apply the necessary techniques to achieve the goals of the project, as well as enhance your own research and generic skills through a tailored development programme. You will introduce and apply new techniques, and have the creativity and initiative to develop novel approaches and methods where required, and you will contribute to the smooth running of the group, including the effective use of resources, training of other colleagues, including MSc and DPhil students.
It is essential that you hold a DPhil degree (or close to completion), together with relevant experimental experience in molecular and cell biology. You will have a record of accomplishment of research, this include achievements and contributions to published papers. You will have sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes, and experience of, and ability to perform, techniques relevant to the project (mammalian cell culture, fluorescence imaging, Western blotting, etc.).
