Role Overview & Responsibilities

Are you a quantitative researcher with a commitment to identifying and understanding inequalities? Do you have a commitment for using quantitative methods to explore socio-economic inequalities relevant to care? If this sounds like you, and you have a proven interest in understanding and researching social care, we have a fantastic opportunity for you!

You will be embedded in an environment of high quality quantitative social research within the Centre for Care at the University of Sheffield, in a collaboration which also involves the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science, University of Oxford. Your work will include:

  • Examining intersectional data of a range of wellbeing outcomes, including socioeconomic status, health and social relationships
  • Using multiple large secondary datasets (including large-scale administrative records and longitudinal/life course surveys) to investigate intersectional inequalities, applying life course, geographical and socio-economic concepts
  • Growing the data infrastructure on care.
We are looking for someone with relevant quantitative, statistical and data science skills for exploiting these data, such as regression-based approaches, including multi-level modelling. Experience of using all data types and methods is not essential and support will be provided throughout the post to address any training needs.

You will be interested in generating impact from our research, and getting involved in our Centre-wide activities such as theory building workshops, capacity building events, co-production and user voice forums.

The Centre for Care is a new research centre established following a highly competitive process run by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The Centre is led by investigators in five universities, three major charities and the Office for National Statistics, and will work in close partnership with a large network of partners and leading international research teams, co-producing its research with people who need care, carers, care workers and others.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
