Role Overview & Responsibilities

Department

The Department of Education is seeking to appoint six Resource Developers in Science Education, two in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You will join the internationally recognised University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG). The posts are full time, and available from 1 September 2023 for one year.

Role

You will be working on the development of research-informed resources for Oak National Academy for school students aged 11-16. You will be working as part of a team led by Alistair Moore and Peter Fairhurst, the senior project staff for UYSEG’s highly regarded Best Evidence Science Teaching (BEST) project.

You will have extensive classroom experience of teaching your subject at ages 11-16. You will also have experience of developing resources for use in your own lessons and for use by colleagues.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • A first degree in Biology or Chemistry or Physics, or a related subject area.

  • Teaching qualification, e.g. Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or equivalent in a science subject

  • Substantial experience of teaching in a school/schools following the English National Curriculum for science in Key Stages 3 or 4

  • Good knowledge of pedagogical approaches to the teaching of science

  • Experience in the creation of high-quality research-informed resources in science

  • Be an excellent practitioner with experience of creating and delivering lesson content that demonstrates pedagogical best practice and excellent subject knowledge

  • Ability to present material in a logical, coherent and engaging format

  • Commitment to personal development and updating of knowledge and skills

Please note that there are three possible options for appointment to the role. The first is the standard recruitment route. Additionally, it may be possible either to second you from your current post for a year, or offer you a contract for services.
