Role Overview & Responsibilities

Context

Since its inception, the V&A has been committed to supporting and promoting new creative practice, acting as a resource and platform for artists, designers and performers. The Exhibitions Department leads the programming and delivery of the museum’s major exhibitions, alongside curating and delivering an extensive contemporary programme. These installations and events help to build new audiences and serve to trial new ideas, approaches and partnerships. This comprises many strands, at the heart of which are Friday Lates and Festivals (specifically London Design Festival and London Festival of Architecture). The two work together to ensure the V&A is continually reaching new audiences and fulfilling its mission to showcase the best of contemporary art, design and performance and inspire future generations.

Main Purpose
The Contemporary Programme Curator, together with the Senior Curator, Contemporary Programme, are the driving creative force of the contemporary programme at the V&A and oversee its practical delivery. Drawing on their extensive knowledge of current creative practice and network of connections across the art, design and performance sectors, they will actively research future projects, identify content, work with practitioners, and support the Senior Curator in developing new partnerships.

Supported by colleagues across the organisation, particularly in the Curatorial, Audiences, Learning and Design departments, they will embed these activities as core to the V&A’s function, using them to ensure the museum remains relevant and vital to the widest possible audience and the global creative community.

At the V&A we strive to ensure that opportunities to work and develop are open to all. We treat all job applications equally, regardless of age, disability, gender identity or gender expression, race, ethnicity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or any other equality characteristic. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, as these groups are currently under-represented in the cultural sector.

Key dates:

  • Application closing date: 23 March at 23:59
  • Interviews: 29/30 March (provisional)
