Software Engineer

Watt.co.uk is the first-to-market with an industry-leading price comparison site for business utilities. We aim to ensure businesses of all sizes have an easy way to find the best prices.

We are looking for enthusiastic software engineers to join us at this exciting time, and help build this next generation of comparison site. You’ll be working as part of a cross-functional, product-focused team on a modern, distributed cloud system.

This is an opportunity to join the new software department within an established business, you’ll be able to contribute to the company’s future while solving the exciting technical challenges that come with creating a scalable product.

What you’ll do

  • Develop, maintain and improve customer-facing systems and internal staff tooling
  • Work collaboratively as part of a software team, taking part in pair programming and code reviews
  • Prototype, analyse and design technical solutions alongside your team
  • Take part in the design of our software products, alongside our Business Analysts
  • Continuously improve our engineering standards by following and driving best practices throughout the development lifecycle
  • Provide guidance and support to junior developers, sharing knowledge and expertise to help them grow

What we’re looking for

Competency and professional experience in at least one of these technologies:

  • TypeScript (NodeJS, React, NextJS)
  • Python
  • SQL (Postgres)

Experience with distributed software and deployments experience with the below (or similar) technologies:

  • AWS Lambda, ECS, SQS, SNS, S3
  • Terraform, Serverless, or CloudFormation

We're also looking for:

  • Experience in software testing, site reliability and real time monitoring
  • Experience with microservice architecture
  • Someone who enjoys working as part of a team, whether that’s a group design session or mob programming to solve a tricky problem
