Role Overview & Responsibilities

Working in the growing World of Rare Books (WORB) stock processing team, this is a great opportunity to work with fellow book lovers in a quiet but fast-paced environment where you will receive training and grow your knowledge.

Please note: This role is initially available as a 12-month, fixed-term contract.

Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Writing accurate, professional listings of our vintage pre-ISBN books ready for sale online.
  • Providing a good quality image of each book giving customers confidence to buy.
  • Enhancing customers’ experience through accurate listings to ensure positive feedback.
  • Achieving a target of 25 completed listings per hour balancing quality and quantity.
  • Lifting and moving totes of books, using correct manual handling processes.
You will also liaise with the wider WORB team and team leaders to ensure the smooth running of the department, and provide occasional cover for operational tasks such as picking of orders, stock sorting and stock movement.

This role will suit an individual with a love of books and reading and a good understanding of the expectations of antique and vintage book buying customers.

Whilst experience of book collecting and/or antique bookselling is not essential, it would be beneficial. Bookselling experience is desirable, as is a higher, or further, level education qualification in English or a humanities subject.

To succeed you will also need:
  • Fluent English language skills (reading and writing) - essential.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience in a data entry role - desirable.
  • Good IT skills including data entry, ability to use handheld PDAs, webcams, and navigate Company software systems and the internet.
  • Experience in a target driven role would be an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and experience of working in a team
  • A proven ability to work independently and manage your work load with little supervision.
The role involves some manual handling throughout the day, the individual must be comfortable with lifting and moving totes of stock weighing up to 25kg. Lift aids are available.
